Medical Facemask- Effective Weapon to Fight COVID-19 Battle

The whole world is reeling under the devastating effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic which is spreading relentlessly, despite of several measures to contain it. Ever since the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19, millions of people across China and other countries have begun to use a medical facemask ( ) and other protective gear to prevent the risk of infection. With the ever-increasing number of novel coronavirus cases in the United States, Italy, Spain, and other countries, the CDC has recommended the use of facemasks to prevent the transmission of the virus from one person to another. Studies reveal that one infected person can affect more than 400 persons at a time, which can be quite an alarming rate for any country.

In many countries health officials discourage the use of facemasks by people who are not infected, fearing the shortage of facemasks for healthcare professionals who need it the most. However, the CDC believes that this is a huge mistake, and encourages all people to wear facemasks to prevent the spread of disease, in spite of being asymptomatic. Now, the majority of the countries all across the world have made the use of facemasks mandatory to reduce the impact of the deadly coronavirus.

Effective against the Spread of Novel COVID-19

One of the most important reasons for every person to wear facemasks, in spite of being infected or not, is that it stops further spread of the disease. More than half of the transmission occurs before the infected person starts to show any symptoms, which explains the reason novel coronavirus has become a pandemic within a few months. Unfortunately, it is difficult to identify those who are affected by the disease before the symptoms appear.

This is exactly the reason why health experts suggest the use of medical facemask while venturing into a public space. Though social distancing can help to prevent the risk of being infected, the virus tends to remain suspended in the air for about 20 minutes when an infected person sneezes or coughs. However, wearing a facemask can prevent a healthy person from being infected by this virus.

Wearing facemasks have likely being the most pertinent reason the spread of novel coronavirus has been contained largely in countries such as China, Japan, and Korea. Masks act as a physical barrier that protects you from being infected by the deadly virus. It also prevents the virus from entering your nose and mouth while you breathe or talk with an infected person. Medical facemasks ( ) are extremely beneficial for those who work in close proximity to COVID-19 patients. It is undoubtedly one of the most effective weapons against the deadly coronavirus, apart from hand washing and social distancing.
